Apsley House London

Apsley House London is a fantastic, metropolitan, neo-classical mansion. Built in the 1770s and designed by Robert Adam, London Apsley House is rich with history. The architect, Benjamin Dean Wyatt was commissioned to make extensive renovations to the original design by the Duke of Wellington in 1818.

Apsley House London has been impressively preserved with its original style and decor. It is one of the only English town houses remaining from the period. Often called the 'Wellington Museum', most of Apsley House London is open to the public as a museum and art gallery.

Grade I listed Apsley House London is historically known as 'Number 1 London' due to it being the first house after the old Knightsbridge tollgates. Home to the first Duke of Wellington and his descendants, Apsley House London contains his extensive art collection. The first Duke's collection includes paintings, sculpture, furniture, porcelain and a silver centrepiece made in Portugal. The star of the Duke's collection is a 3.45 metre marble statue of Napoleon as Mars the Peacemaker by Canova; made 1802-10 and bought from the Louvre in 1816. Many of the famous paintings on display are from the Spanish Royal Collection, possessed after the Battle of Vitoria in 1813.

A brilliant time-warp filled with art, Apsley House London gives a priceless view into an important family's life.
