Changing the Guard in London is a real spectacle that children and adults alike will enjoy to watch. The procedure of Changing the Guard is a historical event that takes place at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and St James Palace. Here is a guide on each Changing the Guard Ceremony in London.

Buckingham Palace:

The Queen's Guard, Household Division are responsible for guarding Buckingham Palace. Sometimes other infantry battalions and units also take this position. Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace London takes every day May to July at 11.30am and every other day at other times of the year. In February and March '11, Changing the Guard will be taking place on odd numbered days i.e.1, 3, 5 etc.

If you see four sentries at the front of Buckingham Palace, this means that the Queen is in residence. There's only two at all other times.

Windsor Castle:

Changing the Guard at Windsor Castle London happens daily at 11am, April to July and alternate days at any other time of the year. During February and March '11, Changing of the Guard will take place on even numbered days i.e. 2, 4, 6 etc. Please note the guards do not perform a ceremony on Sundays.

St James Palace:

The ½ hour ceremony of Changing the Guard at the entrance to St James Palace features the Queen's Life Guard (mounted soldiers). This is known as Horse Guards. It takes place every day Monday to Saturday at 11am and on Sunday at 10am. There is also a 4pm ceremony which is known as the Four O'clock Parade.
