Famous Londoners

London has produced various well-known personalities that remarkably excelled in their fields. Some of these Londoners struggled somewhat during their first few years of career, but they achieved the phenomenal success with their courage, confidence and determination. Their lives have inspired millions of Londoners and others all over the world and continue to inspire the next generation. Many of these people are not completely Londoners as they were born elsewhere, but they had spent considerable time of their lives in London.

Charles Dickens:

Charles Dickens (1812-1870) was the prolific Victorian English novelist, who wrote a number of highly praised novels. As a resourceful nineteenth-century author of novels, short stories, novellas, plays and fiction, during his lifetime Charles produced some of the most iconic characters in the English literature. His work has been acclaimed by experts for his mastery of prose and exceptional personalities.

Charlie Chaplin:

Charlie Chaplin (1889 - 1977), widely regarded as one of the most influential stars of the Hollywood's dawn period, was born in Walworth, London. A man with the toothbrush moustache, bamboo cane, bowler hat and a distinctive walk, is acknowledged as an icon of the silent film era. Charlie's journey from a struggling artist to the world's greatest comedian is highly inspirational to all.

William Shakespeare:

William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) was a highly-thought-of English poet and playwright, considered to be the greatest writer of all time in the English language and the finest dramatist in the world. As the writer, poet, actor, his reputation is unique. His plays have been translated into several languages and are performed quite often than those of any other dramatist.

Isaac Newton:

Isaac Newton (1643 - 1727) was the English physicist, astronomer, mathematician, alchemist, natural philosopher and theologian and is considered by many to be the greatest scientist of all time. Various laws and inventions make him one of the most influential personalities the world has known. Newton's contribution to the development of modern science is incomparable.

Alfred Hitchcock:

Alfred Hitchcock (1899 - 1980) was a popular English filmmaker and producer. He did the pioneering work in the world of suspense and thriller movies. For over five decades, Hitchcock produced some superb, out-of-the-way movies using his distinctive direction style. After a flourishing career in the United Kingdom, he moved to Hollywood.
