What to Do On London's South Bank

Stretching over 2 square miles (5km˛) the South Bank sits within two London Boroughs, Lambeth in the western area and Southwark in the eastern area. Yet still within walking distance of Covent Garden and Westminster.

London's South Bank is set alongside the Southern stretch of the River Thames, with views over to Westminster, Houses of Parliament and down river. This has become a trendy area to hang out during the day and evenings alike. See below our recommended London South Bank attractions.

Bargehouse:

Within the Oxo Tower Wharf there is a display of various art, design and photography exhibitions.

Bernie Spain Gardens:

Located between Oxo Tower and Gabriel's Wharf you will find Bernie Spain Gardens, set by the South Bank Riverside. This is a great place to relax and if the weather permits watch the world go by. Also look out for The Mayor's Annual Festival.

BFI IMAX:

BFI IMAX is the ultimate cinema experience with screens spanning more than 20 metres high and 26 metres wide. The height of the screens are equal to 5 double Decker buses! You can watch all the latest films in 2D, 3D and using IMAX technology.

BFI Southbank:

The British Film Institute was set up in 1929 to promote the film industry and use films as a form of education. At the BFI Southbank you can watch new and archive films in a true cinema experience.

EDF Energy London Eye:

One of the finest London South Bank attractions, The London Eye is the tallest observation wheel in the world. Have a bird's eye view of the city on a 15 minute flight and enjoy a 4D cinema experience with fireworks, snow and much more.

Florence Nightingale Museum:

This museum gives an overview of the legendry Victorian Nurse who led nurses to care for wounded soldiers during the Crimean War and saved the British Army from a medical disaster. Known as "Lady with the Lamp" Florence Nightingale devoted her life to improving healthcare and sanitation for all.

Gabriel's Wharf:

Gabriel's Wharf is set along the banks of the Thames, with great views over to St Paul's Cathedral. This area has a mixture of shops, artist studios, bars and restaurants. Certainly a place to visit if you want to find a one off piece of artwork, jewellery or ceramics.

The Gallery in Oxo Tower Wharf showcases photography, art, design and architecture exhibitions throughout the year. All exhibitions are free to enter.

Hayward Gallery:

Opened by The Queen in 1968, the Hayward Gallery shows modern masters to the latest in contemporary art.

National Theatre:

The Internationally re-known National Theatre hosts a wide array of award winning shows from classics to musicals. Savour the ambiance of this great theatre with a backstage tour or book a ticket for one of the great shows that run in this fantastic theatre.

Oxo Tower Wharf:

Overlooking the River Thames is the Oxo Tower. Here you will find some design boutiques and studios selling contemporary Jewellery, lighting, homeward and fashion. As well as the Oxo Tower Restaurant & Brasserie with amazing views over the Thames.

Sea Life London Aquarium:

For the young and young at heart, you will be dazzled by the Sea Life London Aquarium. Walk through the glass tunnel to view some amazing Sea Life swimming over your heads. Great day out for all the family!
