London Zoo
London Zoo was opened in 1828 as a centre for scientific study and collection. Opening its doors to the public in 1847, London Zoo fast became a popular tourist attraction in London.
Today, London Zoo is home to 15, 104 animals from 755 species. One of the biggest animal collections in the UK, London Zoo prioritises animal welfare. The larger animals like rhinos and elephants have been moved to more spacious enclosures at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.
Steeped with history, London Zoo was not only the first scientific zoo in London; it had the first: Public aquarium, reptile house, children's zoo and insect house in London.
London Zoo has no state funding, having to support itself with donations, membership fees, sponsorship and entrance charges.
An exciting day out for all ages, London Zoo will show you thousands of animals, from the smallest monkey to the tallest giraffe.
