The Lord Mayor's Show 2010 in London
13th November 2010
Mansion House, City of London, City, EC4N 8BH
Telephone: 01328 824420
The Lord Mayor's Show 2010 in London is a traditional parade through the streets of London, firmly rooted in London's rich history. The London Lord Mayor's Show has been taking place annually for the last 800 years and includes over 6,000 personnel, including more than 140 richly decorated floats and costumed performers in addition to the historic and richly gilded State Coach which the Lord Mayor himself travels in.
The procession leaves Mansion House - official residence and workplace of the Lord Mayor during his or her year in office - at 11 a.m. and is preceded by a flypast by the Royal Air Force. The procession winds its way past St. Paul's and the Royal Courts of Justice (the Old Bailey to you and me) to Victoria Embankment before making its way back to Mansion House, getting there at around 4 p.m.
By far the best known of the, now, wide range of such events in London, the Lord Mayor's Show outdoes them all in every respect, of which the huge fireworks display is just one part. Probably the most elaborate and stunning public fireworks display, this part of The Lord Mayor's Show in London is best seen from nearby Embankment or Gabriel's Wharf (on the other side of the river).
Undoubtedly the very best vantage point is in the public gallery of the Oxo Tower but you will need to be there very early, as the limited seats are taken up very quickly. For the display itself, barges filled with fireworks are steered out in the Thames to places between Blackfriars and Waterloo Bridges with the organisers aboard to make sure everything goes with the precision you will appreciate when watching. The firework display is the grand finale to the Lord Mayor's Show '10 in London and starts at 5 p.m.
