OXO Tower Restaurant & Brasserie in London
It is difficult to miss the prominent Oxo Tower on London's Southbank near the Royal Festival Hall, Tate Modern and Globe Theatre. A landmark since the 1930s and previously owned by the makers of the OXO brand, the building fell into disrepair in the 1970s only to be rescued in the 1990s by Coin Street Community Builders.
The famous OXO on the building was created by architect Albert W Moore to sidestep advertising restrictions. The 'elemental geometric form' in glass replaced the proposal to have electric lights spelling OXO.
The Oxo Tower in London also incorporates flats on floors 2nd to 7th and retail studios with bijou arts and craft shops on the ground and first floors. Designers in the studios include fashion, fine art jewellery, ceramics and textiles.
At the top of the tower, on the 8th floor is the Oxo Tower Restaurant, Bar and Brasserie which has been let to owners of the Knightsbridge shop Harvey Nichols. The Oxo Tower Restaurant is situated to the east and the Oxo Tower Bar and Brasserie on the Westside both with a terrace that offers spectacular views of London.
Designed by award winning architects Lifschutz Davidson, the Oxo Tower Restaurant in London is stylish and contemporary with an art deco flavour. The ceiling comprises of double-sided louvers which are white during the day and midnight blue at sunset, allowing guests to enjoy the sights of the City and St Paul's Cathedral.
The ingredients are British influenced and the menu may feature slow cooked pork belly, grilled Herwick mutton leg or halibut or marinated Jersey oysters. For a lively atmosphere and a slightly quicker service, the Oxo Tower Brasserie in London serves a wonderful menu and live jazz.
